Did you know that even though even though parts of the museum are closed for renovations, that there are still many ways for you to experience science at the Bruce Museum? One of these is through our public programs, including an exciting event coming up on December 5:

Can Art Drive Change on Climate Change? An Evening with Alexis Rockman

Alexis Rockman is an artist dedicated to using his artwork as a platform for spreading awareness about problems facing the world today, such as climate change. He will begin the program by discussing the messages and themes present in his art, and why it is important for artists to raise the alarm around looming scientific catastrophes.

In the next portion of the program, he will be joined by David Abel, a reporter covering the environment for the Boston Globe. Abel’s previous reporting includes work on the Pullitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Boston Marathon bombing. He has directed several environmental-themed documentaries as well, such as “Sacred Cod,” which explored the collapse of the cod fishery in New England.

Abel and Rockman will discuss the interplay between environmental activism and art, and will take audience questions for the final part of the program.

Doors open 6:20 pm for a reception with light bites and beverages, followed by the panel discussion and Q&A, 7:00-8:30 pm. Seats are $30 for Museum members, $45 for nonmembers. To reserve a seat at An Evening with Alexis Rockman, click here or call 203-869-0376.
